WITHIN is a collaborative project developed by musician and sound artist Tarek Atoui, investigating how deafness can influence the way we understand sound performance, its space and instrumentation. For Bergen Assembly, nine new instruments that expand notions of listening beyond the aural fill the abandoned pools of Sentralbadet, and will be activated by different composers and performers during September 2016.
For WITHIN III, students from Nattland primary school will perform their very own composition, developed through working on BIT20 Ensembles Vi Komponerer! project for children and youth. The children will be occupied with the project the whole week running up to the performance on Friday.
MAKS ÅPEN is the audiences chance to participate actively in a rehearsal. This is a great opportunity to find out how a professional ensemble puts the music together! You can even make your own contribution by asking questions! Ask anything you like whenever you like. This is your chance to get answers to those questions you’ve always been too frightened to ask. The ensemble is working with the distinguished composer and organizer of large-scale contemporary music events and festivals, Gerhard Stabler, for the concert that will take place on Sunday the 25ft of September: WITHIN IV.
