WITHIN is a collaborative project developed by musician and sound artist Tarek Atoui, investigating how deafness can influence the way we understand sound performance, its space and instrumentation. For Bergen Assembly, nine new instruments that expand notions of listening beyond the aural fill the abandoned pools of Sentralbadet, and will be activated by different composers and performers during September 2016.

For WITHIN II, musician, improviser and inventor of new instruments, Thierry Madiot, assembles musicians to offer a yet unheard experience. Composer and performer Alwynne Pritchard is challenged to work with a brand new set of instruments. Composer Kari Telstad Sundet has developed software and recorded sounds for a new instrument designed in collaboration with Tarek Atoui, textile company Kvadrat and BEK (Bergen Centre for Electronic Art).
