While Chetwynd’s performances are often gregarious and improvisatory affairs involving large gangs of participants, this exhibition looks back at the elaborate, gloriously wonky homemade costumes, props, films and cast-away materials that provide the support structure. As these items end up in museums, the artist uniquely responds to the question of collecting and ‘re-inflating’ performance – Chetwynd’s term for re-enacting and recreating her work – in a series of videos.
