As a core part of PRAXES’s yearlong inquiry into her practice, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd gradually carves out a new work for Bergen Assembly, created in collaboration with a new troupe of local participants around an epicenter of elderly cool cats, plugging into their long-standing insight from the Bergen creative scene.
Invented and reconfigured in three episodes presented throughout 2016, the first episode—that premiered at USF Visningsrommet with a live performance on April 29—began the journey of envisioning a futurology of channeled geriatric knowledge. The Elixia App (Episode One) employs reversible structures, doubled-sided fashions, and a collapsible sci-fi stage. Influenced by business magazine advice (or “apps,”) and a pseudo-anthropology of Norwegian norms of collectivity, the performance and exhibition coyly hoped to empower and extract both the immense wealth of experience and the caustic, boisterous voices of the mature citizens of this city.
