Double Albatross presented a body of work by Lynda Benglis, fresh from the artist’s studio in Santa Fe. Created with handmade paper and wire, the painted, glittering pieces draw on several investigations conducted by the artist over the last fifty years: the sparkling, bright materials of her Louisiana upbringing and Mardi Gras memories, the unapologetic use of knick-knacks in her work produced in India, and the bright synthetic color experiments of her early pours, spilling into her 1970s series of Sparkle Knots. Visitors who made the trip to both the survey exhibition of ceramics and the brand-new paper works might have fallen upon surprising correspondences and dialogues between two seemingly very different media.
