WITHIN is a collaborative project developed by musician and sound artist Tarek Atoui, investigating how deafness can influence the way we understand sound performance, its space and instrumentation. For Bergen Assembly, nine new instruments that expand notions of listening beyond the aural fill the abandoned pools of Sentralbadet, and will be activated by different composers and performers during September 2016.

For WITHIN I, the influential composer, performer and senior figure in contemporary music, Pauline Oliveros, presents a new composition for Bergen Assembly with the excellent BIT20 ensemble. Mats Lindström, composer, musician and artistic director of EMS, Stockholm, and Espen Sommer Eide, musician and artist from Tromsø, present unheard music from newly developed instruments.
